Does anyone who a priest who’s certified to do electrical work? I’ll also settle for an electrician who can recite The Exorcist by heart, seeing as that’d probably be easier to come by.

(Sorry folks, I just haven’t had the time or energy to finish a full update in a while.)

I’ve been messing around with Google Analytics a lot lately, and it seems that my most popular post is my nuanced dissertation on the relative merits of this year’s Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue versus those of the previous year’s (with picture evidence). Who would have ever thought that a post filled with pictures of models in swimsuits would ever be popular? I guess that’s why the swimsuit issue itself does so well every year.

I do find it interesting that all of the pictures I used are the exact ones available on the Sports Illustrated Website, but I’ve still been getting plenty of hits from Google Images searches. I’m assuming that it’s just some weird quirk of how they’re listed on the website, because I can’t possibly be more popular than SI in google’s eyes.

In a restrained act of celebration meant to preserve the innocence and/or jobs of my readers by keeping it off the front page, there is a bonus picture of Brooklyn Decker after the jump:

Thank you for reading.

UPDATE: as certain individuals, who may or may not have given birth to me, have seen fit to question my assertion that google images is responsible for the hits, I’ll give you the raw numbers: I have gotten a total of 98 pageviews from Google Images (72 unique) on the post in question. From facebook, I’ve gotten two. In fact, the next highest source after google images was straight-up google, which had eight.

I closed my facebook account the other night. It was something that I’d been thinking about doing for a while, but I finally decided that it was time. Surprisingly, it had nothing to do with the controversial change to the terms of service, or with all the weird causes and groups I was invited to join (although the last thing I did was change my status so that it threatened to de-friend anyone who sent me unsolicited invitations to stupid things, in so many words). It had nothing to do with the 25 random things, or movie quotes, or antyhing like that. Most importantly, it had nothing to do with my Mom friending me.

Basically, I quit facebook because It wasn’t worth having anymore. Back when I was actually in school, it was nice to have a way to get in touch with people, or to contact classmates or floormates or what have you. But now that I’ve graduated and my account was four years old, it was so loaded down with random people (freshman year I decided that it’d be fun to friend everyone named Seitz I could find) that I wasn’t getting information from people that I was actually interested in hearing about/from.

I didn’t have the 400 or so friends that facebook said I did, and after closing it down, I still have the same number of real friends. If any of those people want to get in touch with me, they can email me or call me. I don’t need to go to a website to hear from someone that I know in real life, and I’d rather have a conversation with someone than read a profile.

In case you’re curious, I will also not be starting Twitter any time soon. If you read just about anything on this site, you can tell that I can’t form coherent thoughts in the span of a mere 140 characters. Running a Twitter feed is just a half-assed way to make yourself sound clever. Again, I’d rather just have a conversation with someone.

There is a certain irony, I’m aware, in the fact that I’m bitching about these websites on my personal blog. I really don’t have an answer to that, except that I own this domain name, built the site myself and I won’t sell my own information to marketers in exchange for access. If you’re going to broadcast your thoughts and opinions, you might as well put some effort into it and make it at least somewhat original.

Just a quick handful of some minor/major events of the last week or so:

Two more articles published in the Allston-Brighton TAB: “Obama Supporters celebrate Inauguration Day at the Kells in Allston,” and “Boston College plans head to Boston Redevelopment Authority despite neighbor’s protests.” It’s exciting stuff, trust me. I’ll also give a quick shoutout to my roommate Kevin, who had an article in the TAB this week as well.

There’s also a great piece on Bernie Madoff in the Times, which contains this wonderfully high brow insult: “An easy answer is that Mr. Madoff was a charlatan of epic proportions, a greedy manipulator so hungry to accumulate wealth that he did not care whom he hurt to get what he wanted.”

I also finally got around to seeing The Wrestler this weekend, so I can verify that Peter Travers review really was awful. It’s an amazing film, and I’m all but certain that Rourke’s going to get the Oscar for it. It’s not really a plot-driven movie, and it relies so heavily on him that he’ll probably get it almost by default (kind of like Daniel Day-Lewis in There Will Be Blood).

And today is also my 22nd birthday. Go me.

This is one of those videos that I like to kick back and watch every year or so. I do the same thing with The Big Lebowksi, Clerks and Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (the movie and the book). There are some things that you just never get tired of seeing, and John Turturro licking a bowling ball and Jon Stewart calling Tucker Carlson a dick are definitely in that category.

Part of me wants to say that I’m putting this up because of Obama’s inauguration tomorrow, and maybe I am, but it’s not a “we won” kind of way. “Crossfire” was canceled shortly after this appearance, and I think CNN all but admitted that Jon Stewart was the reason why. But really, the message he was trying to put across wasn’t just that “Crossfire” was bad. He’s railing against the whole partisan atmosphere of politics and the media’s coverage thereof. That hasn’t changed enough. TV’s still going to be full of idiots screaming at each other, and I’m sure that the next four to eight years are going to be just as ugly as the last eight.

But hey, what do I know. All I ask is that whenever the impulse grabs you to start ranting and raving about the other side, you remember Jon Stewart. Or this other totally sweet crossfire video.

In the future, all political debate will be handled by shooting ball bearings at each other, with the loser spinning off into oblivion. This will be an improvement.
