This is one of those videos that I like to kick back and watch every year or so. I do the same thing with The Big Lebowksi, Clerks and Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (the movie and the book). There are some things that you just never get tired of seeing, and John Turturro licking a bowling ball and Jon Stewart calling Tucker Carlson a dick are definitely in that category.

Part of me wants to say that I’m putting this up because of Obama’s inauguration tomorrow, and maybe I am, but it’s not a “we won” kind of way. “Crossfire” was canceled shortly after this appearance, and I think CNN all but admitted that Jon Stewart was the reason why. But really, the message he was trying to put across wasn’t just that “Crossfire” was bad. He’s railing against the whole partisan atmosphere of politics and the media’s coverage thereof. That hasn’t changed enough. TV’s still going to be full of idiots screaming at each other, and I’m sure that the next four to eight years are going to be just as ugly as the last eight.

But hey, what do I know. All I ask is that whenever the impulse grabs you to start ranting and raving about the other side, you remember Jon Stewart. Or this other totally sweet crossfire video.

In the future, all political debate will be handled by shooting ball bearings at each other, with the loser spinning off into oblivion. This will be an improvement.
