Yeah, the name of this site is pretty bad, but…

Seitzwrites.com wasn’t my first choice for a web domain, but it was the best option available. I think it’s tolerably bad though. I mean, it’s not very clever, but it does sum up what the site is about. My name is Seitz. I write. That’s why it’s styled with two periods at the top of the page.

Now Seitz isn’t that common of a name, but there are a surprising number of domains that use Seitz, probably because it’s a homophone for sites, making for all kinds of fun puns.

So, at the risk of hurting my google pageranks, here’s a list of other Seitz webpages, some of which I did try to register for this site (note: I don’t know any of these people, and made no effort to contact them):

  • www.seitz.com – This would be the most straighforward option, and considering that I pretty much go by Seitz (or some variant thereof) around my friends, it makes a lot of sense. Unfortunately, Seitz Technical Products of Avondale, Pennsylvania owns the domain. On the plus side, they have a sweet logo, and the company was founded by a guy named John Seitz (no known relation, though I do have some family in Pennsylvania).
  • www.jonseitz.com – This would be a great domain, but some other Jon Seitz clearly already owns it. Strangely, the site only exists as a hub for the guys other sites, which includes…
  • www.webseitzdesign.com – ignoring the obvious grammar issues, this is actually a pretty clever title, until you try to tell it to someone and have to explain the spelling every time. It also doesn’t help that everyone seems to have trouble pronouncing Seitz.
  • www.jonathanseitz.com – I didn’t really even look at registering this one, but I guess somebody has it too. I think it’d be a little long for a personal site, but it is still my name.
  • www.inseitz.com – Believe it or not, I wanted this domain. Again, it’s not especially clever and almost annoying, but it seems like the kind of thing that would get less irritating as time goes on. Oddly, there doesn’t really seem to be much on the site. I guess these are all links about carbide fireplace inserts…wait, “scrotum inserts?” I don’t want to know.
  • www.mayoseitzmedia.com – This isn’t one I would have registered, but it’s another site owned by a Jon Seitz, and another site from Pennsylvania. Even weirder, I hate mayonnaise.
  • The Jonathan Seitz Fan Club – Well, this one isn’t even a Seitz-based domain, but it is the first thing that comes up when you google “Jonathan Seitz.” I don’t know this guy, but apparently the website’s based out of Swarthmore University, which is located in, again, Pennsylvania (coincidentally, I have a cousin on my mom’s side who graduated from Swarthmore last year). I’ve gotta imagine that if that site can get the first spot on Google, then I should be able to get up there within a few months.

So yeah, maybe seitzwrites.com isn’t that bad after all.
